CURRICULUM
EASY-TO-USE
MODULE 1
By the end of this module, you will be able to:
Understand the Principles of Usability: Define and explain key principles of usability and user-centered design.
Apply Design Thinking: Use design thinking methodologies to ideate and solve user experience challenges.
Create User Personas: Develop user personas based on research to inform design decisions.
Design Intuitive Interfaces: Apply best practices for creating user-friendly layouts, navigation, and interactions.
Prototype and Test: Build low-fidelity prototypes and conduct usability testing to iterate on designs.
Evaluate Usability: Use heuristics and user feedback to assess and improve software usability.
CAPSTONE PROJECT
Design and Prototype an Easy-to-Use Software Experience
In this capstone project, you will apply everything you have just learned by designing and prototyping an intuitive, easy-to-use software experience. You will choose a software feature or key workflow from an existing software application and design an experience (solution) that enhances its usability and learnability.
EASY-TO-LEARN
MODULE 2
By the end of this module, you will be able to:
Understand Learnability: Define and explain what makes software easy to learn.
Apply Cognitive Psychology Principles: Use principles like mental models and cognitive load to enhance learnability.
Design for Onboarding: Create effective onboarding experiences to help users learn software quickly.
Simplify Workflows: Identify and reduce complexity in tasks and interfaces.
Provide Contextual Help: Design in-app guidance and resources that support learning in real time.
Design Adaptive and Personalized Learning Experiences: One-size-fits-all doesn’t work, learn how to meet each user’s unique needs.
CAPSTONE PROJECT
Reimagine an Easy-to-Learn Software Onboarding Experience
In this capstone project, you will analyze and redesign the onboarding experience of an existing application, with a focus on enhancing learnability, reducing cognitive load, and improving user engagement. By conducting usability audits, gathering user feedback, and applying learnability principles, you will create a streamlined, user-friendly onboarding flow that supports different learning styles and adapts to user needs.
FEATURES
HANDS-ON CHALLENGES
At the end of each chapter, we provide you with a hands-on design challenge (project) to apply your newly learned knowledge and skills. You can use these design challenges as portfolio pieces, or bring these to your work / team on the job.
ON-DEMAND 1:1 COACHING
At any point in the bootcamp, you can schedule 1:1 coaching sessions with an Experience Design Maker Coach. You can use these sessions for general feedback and coaching on any parts of the hands-on challenges or capstone projects.
CERTIFICATION OF COMPLETION
Once you have completed the program, you will receive a Software Experience Design Maker Certificate of Completion. You can show these off on social media, and bring them on the job for performance reviews and development recognition.
JOIN OUR ALUMNI NETWORK
You will also be invited to join our network of alumni network who are actively engaged to provide 1:1 scheduled coaching to our active learners in the bootcamp.
FAQs
-
The timeline depends on your pace, but typically it can look like this:
10 hours/week, it will take you about 6 months to complete
20 hours/week, it will take you about 3 months to complete
40 hours/week, it will take you just over 1 month to complete
-
This program is self-paced, meaning you can complete at your own speed. So not to worry, you can’t ‘‘fall behind’ as you set the pace for your learning.
-
We recommend that you have some experience with user experience and/or graphic design in a leisure or professional setting. In addition, we strongly recommend that you have previous experience using tools like Figma or Adobe Creative Suite.
-
You will need a laptop, internet access and specific software like Figma, Miro or similar.
-
The program has 15 chapters total, and each chapter includes 3 lessons and 1 hands-on project that you submit for evaluation. Each lesson includes engaging learning content, best practices, real world examples, resources and knowledge checks. The program also has 2 capstone projects that you need to complete, that brings together all of the knowledge and skills you have been building along the way.
-
For each hands-on project we give you a detailed evaluation rubric that the Experience Design Maker coaches use to evaluate your work and provide feedback on.
-
The bootcamp is designed to equip you with real-world skills and portfolio projects. But job readiness also depends on your effort in networking, interviewing and applying.
In addition, we also offer scheduled 1:1 coaching sessions so you can bring forward real on the job projects / challenges in coaching sessions (if you pay and schedule those).
-
Yes! You should look into our 1:1 scheduled coaching sessions - one of our Experience Design Maker coaches would be thrilled to meet with you.
